Sirius came home, tired and worn out from a long day at work.  He grumbled as he tossed his coat onto the hook and kicked his shoes off.  He walked into the livingroom, ready for a nap, when he came to a stop.  There, sitting at the old piano, was Remus.

"Oh, hello Rem," he mumbled, sinking down onto the sofa.

Remus didn't look away from the keys, but smiled.  "Hello love, how was work?"

"Exhausting,"  Sirius complained, throwing his feet up onto the coffee table, a bad habit that Remus hated.

Remus didn't seem to notice though.  His fingers flitted across the keys, sweet music filling the room.  

Sirius, who was pouting, and wanted to be pampered, tapped his foot against the table, trying to catch Remus' attention.  It didn't work.

Remus began humming along with his playing.  Sirius sighed, realizing that his pestering wasn't working.  "Reeeeeemus."

"Yes dear?"  Remus asked, the music overpowering his soft voice.

"What are you doing?"  Sirius asked.  It wasn't that he didn't enjoy Remus' playing.  In fact, this piece was actually quite beautiful.  The thing was, he was a very selfish man at times, and when he wanted something, he wanted it.  And at this moment he wanted his boyfriend's full attention.  

"Playing,"  Remus replied, and  bowing his head he began to sing.

Remus looked at Sirius from the corner of his eye.  His voice was soft, gentle.

I know I let you down but it's not like that now

He took a deep breath and began singing slightly louder.

Sirius had heard Remus sing before of course, in the shower and along with the radio.  But, he had never heard him really sing, never heard him use his voice in such a beautiful way.  Each word hit him, and he stopped tapping his foot, not wanting to miss a word.

I thought that I had everything I didn't know what life could bring
But now I see honestly

Remus turned and smiled shyly at Sirius, his fingers never faltering.  He hit every note perfectly.

Sirius noticed a tear begin falling down Remus' face.

Remus' voice softened again and it was just the piano playing.  Sirius watched as another tear followed the track left by the first.

Remus' voice softened to a whisper, barely audible over the piano.

As the music died away, Sirius wiped his eyes, surprised to find that they were wet.  Remus stood up from his seat and made his way over to Sirius.  He came to a stop before the couch, a soft smile on his lips.

"Did you like it?"  He asked.

Sirius nodded,  "I loved it.  It was beautiful."

Remus smiled.  "I'm glad.  Do you know what I was trying to say?"

"Ummm, that you love me?" Sirius asked, grinning up at his boyfriend.

"Yes, that.  And, well,"  Remus lowered himself onto one knee, pulling a small black box out of his pocket.  Upon opening the box, Sirius saw a glimmering silver band inside.  "I want to spend forever with you, Sirius.  Will you do me the great honour of-"

"Yes!"  Sirius interupted.

"Let me finish, please,"  Remus asked calmly.  "I've been practicing this all morning."  Sirius shut his mouth and made the motion of zipping it shut.

Taking another deep breath, Remus asked, "Sirius Orion Black, will you do me the great honour of being my husband?"

Sirius quickly unzipped his lips and nodded excitedly.  "Yes!"  He jumped off of the couch (his aches and pains long forgotten) and hugged his new fiance.

The evening faded away into night, and the two men never made it upstairs to their bed.  They spent the night sleeping on the floor of the living room, exhausted from celebrating their engagement.
